Editor’s Introduction

Editor’s Introduction

It is a decade to the year since the National Commission on Farmers submitted the last of its five Reports and its National Policy on Farmers to the Government of India.

In this Symposium, the Review of Agrarian Studies presents two articles, the first by the Chairperson of the Commission, M. S. Swaminathan, and the second by two leaders of the All India Kisan Sabha, Hannan Mollah and Vijoo Krishnan. Many of the recommendations of the Commission have figured prominently in the demands raised by the Kisan Sabha over the past ten years.

The articles are revised versions of papers presented by the authors at the event to launch the website of the Foundation for Agrarian Studies, held at Chennai on March 19, 2016.

Editor, Review of Agrarian Studies
